How does it work?
Learning
Sign up as a parent/student and browse our tutor directory. You can search and filter your results to find the tutor that best suits your needs, location and routine. Communicate directly with tutors to organise a time, location, platform and price. Complete the session and pay tutors directly, with no commission of fees to pay, 100% of your fee goes in the pocket of the tutor.
Teaching
Sign up as a tutor and create a ‘tutor profile’. This is your chance to advertise yourself including your experience, strengths as well as your price per hour and availability. Once parents or students have contacted you, you can communicate to organise a time, place or platform that suits you. Complete your tutoring session and get paid directly, no fees or commission taken by MQT, you get 100% of the money from the session.
Background
In these troubling and uncertain times, Tom, a teacher, and James, a development worker, sought to answer an important question – how best can we support children to continue their education when their schools are shut amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The answer was simple, by connecting them to the tens of thousands of teachers whose schools are also shut.
The online marketplace, My Qualified Tutor was born. The aim is to create a place where real teachers can place adverts of their availability to run online tutoring sessions for students who are not able to attend school. Parents and students can then find the right My Qualified Tutor for their exact needs.
Why real teachers?
Most tutoring sites use unqualified teachers, graduates, or university students as makeshift tutors. We only use real, qualified, UK teachers at My Qualified Tutor. Each with an up to date Teacher Reference Number and are DBS and reference checked. We believe that a student centered approach using real and qualified teachers is the best way to improve student grades.

The team
Tom has been teaching in UK schools for the past 10 years including head of year, head of department and examining for AQA. James has worked in Africa and Asia developing and managing large educational projects since 2008, often working with government education departments to develop inclusive teacher training programmes. The other James has managed, mentored and taught computer science since finishing his PhD in 2009.
Tom and James met when working with the Ghana Education Service in West Africa, developing public-private teaching enterprises, including teacher training and interactive classroom development. They have worked together on a number of projects since and founded MQT as a digital marketplace in 2020.
